12 Basic Principles of Animation

Hi again! The 12 Basic Principles of Animation are very important to use and should be included when creating animations. The first principle of animation is squash and stretch. Squash and stretch shows weight and flexibility to objects. This principle can be applied to both inanimate and animate objects. The second principle, anticipation, makes an action look more realistic and prepares the audience for an action. The third principle of animation is staging. Staging directs the audience's attention. A spotlight  would be an example of staging. Straight Ahead Action and Pose to Pose is the fourth principle. Straight ahead action creates realistic action sequences. Pose to pose is used for emotional scenes. Follow through and Overlapping action is used to make an action look more realistic. Loose parts of the body such as limbs continue to move after the character stops. The next principle is slow in and slow out. This principle is used to accelerate and slow down objects to make the animation more realistic. After slow in and slow out is arc. This principle can be used for limbs and inanimate objects. It can be used to make an object look more fluid. Secondary action supports the main action and gives a scene more like. They simply emphasize the main action. Timing refers to the number of frames per action. All actions should be timed correctly to make the character look more realistic. Exaggeration makes cartoons more interesting so it won't look dull. Many Disney characters use exaggeration. The next principle solid drawing takes into account three dimensional space. Shapes, weight, and light and shadow need to be considered when using solid drawings. The last principle is appeal. This principle makes the character more appealing. Characters with easy to read expressions are appealing even if the character was a villain because it easy to understand the character. The 12 basic principles of animations are very important and should be incorporated into animations when creating them.

My First Post

Hi! My name is Ciena and I am currently enrolled in 6th period 2D animation. I just created an account and I am excited to announce that this is my first post! I am super excited since I have never "blogged" before. My favorite Disney character is Chip from Beauty and the Beast. Chip is a cute, shy character and that is my favorite part about him. I have a feeling that it will be an exciting year!!!
